DEAR PARENTS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS:
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! As your new PTSO President, I am super excited to join with you in this year’s calendar of awesome events. We have a lot of educational, fun, and even a bit silly events coming up and I know you and your child will have a blast at each one!
So, who and what are the PTSO and what do they do for your Coyote Hills student, teacher, and campus? Well, first off, I am your newly-elected PTSO President Rachel Varela, I have a son in 4th grade, a daughter in Kindergarten, as well as two little girls ages 2 & 1!! We have a board made up of Coyote Hills parents with children in various grades and along with parents who have already signed up for membership this year, we make up the Coyote Hills PTSO. You too can join the PTSO and be a part of the decision making, the fun and the friendships! This is our family’s 2nd year at Coyote Hills and my favorite part so far has been fostering relationships with other parents and watching how the PTSO really does help this wonderful school thrive.
It is our goal within PTSO to promote and support opportunities for families to be effectively involved in their children’s educational lives because children succeed when families, schools, and communities work together. PTSO assists with home/school communication, cares about school safety, quality teachers, healthy lifestyles. PTSO helps local leaders plan events and involve families with training, tools, and resources within our school community. In previous years, the Coyote Hills PTSO has funded sporting events, supplies in the classroom, state of the art projection and sound system in the auditorium, arts education, student aid and fun events such as the Santa Shop, Family move nights, Carnival and Bingo Night and much more.
Our Vision for this year is GO FIRST. Raising a generation of leaders who understand that leading isn’t about power, but a willingness to go first. We want to lead the way in kindness, inclusivity, and safety. Everyone can be a leader in one way or another, be an example and a role model, whether it’s the kid in the lunchroom who sees the nervous new guy sitting alone, or the students walking on the quad that notice all the trash and stop to pick it up. We each can find something we want to change and GO FIRST. BE THE EXAMPLE.
Most parents say to me, “I don’t have the time to volunteer or attend the meetings”. My response is always “that’s okay!”. Your membership doesn’t commit you to anything but being a part of the school’s PTSO, attend when you can, volunteer the time you do have, or send a lasagna in your place (we are always in need of lasagna, or is that just me?).
Please fill out the membership flyer, turn it into the office or your child’s teacher with the $10 fee, so that each of you can have the opportunity to become informed and involved in school events, obtain a wide array of resources, training, and programs, and have your voice heard. Your membership helps us bring the school’s children the best possible experiences for their present and future educational needs. Did you know that this year when you sign up for a membership, $1 will be donated to the Special Education Department? I promise to make your PTSO experience fun and hassle free! Sign up Now!
Thank you for your time, for being a present parent and for your dedication to Coyote Hills and its students! I look forward to meeting each of you!
BE BLESSED ALWAYS,
